If you read the technology sections, you're probably sick to death of podcasting, such has been it's rapid uptake and hype in the last 6 months but it's here (or is that hear) and it's adding a whole new dimension to internet communications.

Podcasting is essentially the new thing in blogging - blogging with audio. Listeners download audio files to their computers - even directly to their iPods (and other such portable audio players) that people have created - just like having a personal radio station. These can be anything from music, interviews, general rants and rave, news and anything else you can do with sound.

Where it gets really interesting is that there is software available now which will allow a listener to subscribe to a particular podcast and their iPod / Computer / portable audio player will automatically download it for them as soon as it is released. The most popular of this software currently is iPodder but there are others available as well.

We're still looking into the potential of podcasting in education but imagine the possibilities - interviews with industry notables, recordings of lectures, release of new information in roleplays - the sky is the limit.
